Growing up in Japan, our founder Holly developed an appreciation of Japanese green tea that she later shared with people she met all over the world. When she discovered that many people could not find good quality tea locally, Holly decided to start her own business and Chiki Tea was born. Through our international online shop we have sent the very finest Japanese teas all over the world, creating a diverse and well-informed community of J-tea fans!
But why stop there?
In 2015 we opened our first store in Japan to explore the idea of serving these teas in a relaxed cafe atmosphere, as an alternative to the more formal tea salons you usually need to visit to experience very high quality teas.

So after the success of this store, we decided to move our operation to a big city, where we could really develop the full concept we have planned: A large bakery and retail store, supporting several smaller matcha bars, and cafes.
So in January 2018, the whole operation moved to Kobe, and we have now opened the first matcha bar in Sannomiya.
Our teas still come from Kyushu, as we have built up strong relationships with many specialist farmers, blenders and tea-masters there, and they are very excited to share their teas and expertise with a new audience in Kobe.
We hope to roll out more stores next year, and if you are interested to help us in any way, or would be interested to invest in our company to see our plans put into action, please do get in touch!
Chiki Tea Ltd founded, and www.chikitea.com goes live, giving thousands of tea-fans worldwide the chance to buy and try Japanese teas not normally available outside Japan.
Chiki Tea Japan is created and opens a pilot store in Nakatsu, Oita. Running for nearly two years, it was a great success and generated a lot of interest from customers and media, even featuring on local TV.
Chiki Tea Matcha Bar opens in Sannomiya, Kobe, supported by pop-up and community tea events around the city.
— Helen HayashiChiki Tea – thank you for coming to Sannomiya, Kobe. We are thrilled to have you here! Professional service, high grade green tea in a variety of drink forms (yet, without the over-sweetness of so many other matcha drink concoctions), matcha baristas are exceptionally knowledgeable about tea varieties, and home-made yet professional-grade western-style baked goods. I only wish you were open in Sannomiya full-time! We – want – tea (& cake)! East meets West at it’s best.
